The Deakin Centre for Refugee Employment, Advocacy, Training and Education (CREATE) supports people from migrant and refugee backgrounds to rebuild their careers through meaningful employment, education and training opportunities.
We work with government, industry and community partners to develop practical solutions and advocate for policies that promote inclusion in workplaces and education sectors.

Our mission is to become an internationally renowned Research Centre that supports advancement of knowledge and understanding through research, education, training and career guidance, ultimately leading to quality and decent employment opportunities for refugees and migrants.
Overarching goal
CREATE aims to provide refugees and migrants with support to rebuild their lives in new environments and ultimately achieve self-sufficiency and a sense of belonging.
Our overarching goal is to develop cutting-edge research, programs and strategic partnerships that maximise sustainable social and economic benefits for refugees and migrants through the following means:
- To engage in and support multidisciplinary and independent scholarship on factors affecting employment and career pathways for refugees and migrants
- To develop cutting-edge projects, programs, practices, digitial capabilities and strategic partnerships that optimise the Centre’s ability to generate social, economic, and sustainable benefits for refugees and migrants locally, nationally and globally
- To assist refugees and migrants to achieve self-sufficiency and a sense of belonging.
- To have an impact beyond the academy by understaking, drawing on and disseminating research findings to stakeholders and end-users, including government policymakers, non-government agencies and organisations and refugees and migrants and their representatives.
